Joni Harte knew her first job out of college would be tough, but she didn’t expect it to be murder.
With the ink mostly dry on her journalism degree, Joni accepts the position of news reporter and photographer for The Ogallala Gazette. She’s tasked with chronicling all of the goings-on of the quirky characters who inhabit this small Missouri town.
While investigating the identity of the first murder victim, Joni makes an enemy of the local sheriff. Worse, she catches the attention of a violent stalker who promises to cure Joni of her curiosity.
As the Ogallala County Fair comes to an end, Joni must uncover the truth before she comes to hers.

I did read this in one day. It is not a long story but you'll find yourself imaging being right there with Miss Reporter, Joni Harte, right down to fighting for your life.

I was interested in this both because I am a cozy addict and because I also have both journalism and FAIR experience. Right out of high school I was one of those carnies and ride operators.
There were descriptions in this book that put me right back in the festival atmosphere, down to the tastes and smells.
The characters have those classic cozy alliterations names and in the very beginning we really do not know who to trust. I enjoyed watching the relationships develop and the personalities come through.

Joni Harte comes from a literary family and has been living in the shadow of her award winning older sister. She is determined enough to want to pave her own path, from choosing a different college to taking a challenging position at an understaffed small town gazette. She knew there would be tough days but never expected fighting to survive the worst week of her life.
It all started with being in the right (or was it wrong) place and photographing a murder victim in the Love Moat.

If you like light escape reads, or cozy murder mysteries, or small town communities you will enjoy this book.
I did receive an advance copy of this book in exchange for review.
